Job Search Tips

Top job search tips...

Don't put all your eggs in one basket--use various methods to look for work (job search engines, newspapers, industry publications, community bulletin boards, in person networking with companies, to name a few).
Don't expect quick results--a job search is your full-time job, at least 5 days a week, and should be a priority. You need to be ready to spend time and energy researching companies, preparing yourself, and talking with potential employers, as well as friends, family, acquaintances, your hair stylist, doctor, anyone you know. They might hear of a job and pass on to you.
Put on a happy face--attitude is everything when looking for work. Even when feeling blue and discouraged, you need to find a smile and paste it on when you approach employers. First impressions can make or break your getting a job. A smile (AND a handshake AND eye contact) give off positive energy that employers will respond to.
Know yourself--know what you like and don't like in a work environment, know your strengths (and weaknesses), know your skills (and how to talk about them), know your values and your priorities, know your resume (and if you don't have one, get one!), know how you do in interviews (if you tend to crumble, get help to improve).
